Filing A Fictitious Name in Kern County
It is the responsibility of the registrant to read and to be familiar with the requirements for filing an FBN statement.
The County Clerk staff is not permitted to advise customers on legal matters concerning the filing of an FBN statement. Customer assistance will be limited to general questions concerning completion of the form.
In addition to filing the statement with the County Clerk, it is your responsibility to check the FBN Index in our office to determine if the business name you have chosen is available.
You may file more than one Doing Business As (DBA) on the same form, if all other facts regarding the businesses are identical, i.e. same locations and owners. If listing more than three businesses or registrants, please complete information using FICTITIOUS BUSINESS NAME ADDENDUM.
If you will be filing as a Corporation or a Limited Liability Company, you must furnish a Certificate of Status issued by the California Secretary of State. **Please note – we will accept the original, photocopy, email printout or fax.
